ABOUT
Paull-Anthony made his European debut in 2018 at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. As a member of the company's ensemble, he appeared in eleven productions, including Nabucco, Die Zauberflöte, Salome, and Eugene Onegin. In the following two seasons, he was a Theatre Basel ensemble member, appearing as Colline in La Bohème, Hobson in Peter Grimes, and roles in Die Zauberflöte and Al gran sole carico d'amore. He was engaged by Staatstheater Kassel and Luzern Theater before joining the full-time chorus at Staatsoper Unter den Linden in 2021.
He began his professional career at West Australia Opera, singing roles including Pinellino in Gianni Schicchi, Sciarrone in Tosca, Colline in La Bohème, Parson & Badger in The Cunning Little Vixen, and Zuniga in Carmen. His operatic repertoire includes Leporello in Don Giovanni, Frank in Die Fledermaus, and The Ogre in Montsalvatge's El Gato con Botas. On the concert stage, he has performed the title role in Mendelssohn's Elijah and been a soloist in works such as Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on Christmas Carols, Fauré's Requiem, Bach's Cantata BWV 147, Rossini's Stabat Mater, and Mozart's Missa Brevis in F major.
A Manhattan School of Music graduate and the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts graduate, Paull-Anthony received numerous awards and scholarships. These include the 2017 Opera Foundation for Young Australians' Deutsche Oper Berlin Award, the Richard Bonynge Award in the Joan Sutherland & Richard Bonynge Bel Canto Award, and the ROSL Award IFAC Handa Australian Singing Competition. He was awarded scholarships from the Dame Joan Sutherland Fund, the Australian Music Foundation, the Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust, and the Royal Schools of Music Club. He also receives the Amelia Joscelyne Memorial Scholarship from the Melba Opera Trust, the Sir Robert William Askin Operatic Scholarship, the Tait Memorial Trust's Julian Baring Award, and a 2017 Mike Walsh Fellowship.
In 2023, Paull returned to Australia to join Opera Australia's full-time chorus before changing direction and starting a career as an Artist Manager with Patrick Togher Artists' Management. Utilising skills from his post-graduate degree in Cultural and Arts Management from Leuphana University, he now manages more than 60 singers in their artistic careers. In addition to his management work, Paull is a vocal coach, collaborating with his husband, Thomas Victor Johnson, under the name paull&thom.
